South of Broadband (High Speed Internet speeds up)

Being involved in advocating more broadband availability and technology adoption in Hickman County for the past two and a half years, it all seems slow and at times a little lonely. At the impending change in season , it is hard for me not to look back at what we have accomplished. During our last statewide broadband steering committee meeting, the new broadband availability maps created by Connected Tennessee with input from providers and residents were discussed. Given Hickman County’s lower than average broadband adoption rate (if broadband is available, the percentage of households that will adopt broadband service), availability has increased tremendously. In addition, Comcast has recently improved service in Hickman County. Though in the development stages, a 4G WiMAX system is a possibility in the near future also. Hmm, maybe all those old surveys the community did on broadband demand and those committee meetings are paying off.
